Hear are the Basics.

What is a Voice Writer?

Voice writing is a method of captioning used to capture the spoken in real-time word by listening, and repeating, no typing involved. The software involved will do the work for you in producing a transcript, and transmitting the captions across a screen for the consumer to view.

Who uses captioning services?

Captions are just one form of accessibility that can be used by many. For those who are a part of the Deaf or Hard of Hearing community, language learners, or anyone in a loud environment that cannot hear the spoken word.

What is broadcast captioning?

Broadcast captioning is capturing the spoken word on air in real-time. Anything on TV: newscasts, local lifestyle shows, weather, sports, press conferences, commercials, movies, and more.

Who developed the CapPlus CART and Caption Course?

Christine Ales has over 20 years experience as a voice writer. She started her career as a real-time court reporter who was hired by a major captioning company to develop a school for captioners, seeing the lack of adequate voice writing captioners in the industry. She has developed her own theory and used her years of experience to pour into and develop the CapPlus Course.

What is CART?

CART captioning is capturing the spoken word in a classroom setting K-college, corporate meetings, board meetings, city council meetings, conference calls, webinars, events, town halls, and video conferencing. All CART work is done remotely in real-time.

What does a captioning career look like?

Upon completion of the CapPlus course, it’s your choice to become an independent contractor (“IC”) working with several clients of your choosing, or an employee of a client. Being an IC means you’d have a very flexible lifestyle. This is based on personal preference.
